ACMG-Guided Backcountry Days From $118 a Day
ACMG-Guided Backcountry Days From $118 a DayHiring a backcountry ski guide in Whistler isn’t cheap. Group days with other backcountry guiding companies in The Sea To Sky start around $185 per person, and a private guide runs $700 to $1,100 plus GST. On an Aurora Backcountry Pass, a day with an ACMG-certified guide works out to $118 to $183, depending on your pass. Here’s how the numbers work, how the $200 upgrade fits in, and the few rules that keep it all running. What a day costs on your passHere’s what one guided day works out to on each 2026-27 pass. All prices are before GST.
- Single day (no pass): $240
- Sea to Sky: $732 for 4 days, $183.00 a day
- Recreationalist: $1,298 for 8 days, $162.25 a day
- Enthusiast: $1,675 for 12 days, $139.58 a day
- Full Season: $1,885 for 16 days, $117.81 a day
You have December 1 to April 30, more than 150 days, to use your days. How the $200 Upgrade Works, and When It’s Worth ItEvery trip needs three people signed up to run. If it’s just one or two of you, you have a choice.

Bookings close 20 hours before the start time, and you can cancel up to 24 hours before. When it’s worth itSay you’ve picked a day and only one other person has signed up, or nobody has. For $200 you can run it anyway with an ACMG-certified guide. That’s $200 per day, not per person, so split between two of you it’s $100 each.

Here’s how that compares with booking a private guide:

To hire a certified guide in Whistler or elsewhere in BC for a private day, expect $700 to $1,100 plus GST, depending on the area, season and group size. Our own private guiding is $850.An upgraded day isn’t a private day. Other passholders can still sign up, up to six per guide. And if the day reaches three sign-ups, it runs without the upgrade, so there’s no need to pay until it’s clear it won’t.Is this the best deal in Whistler for a backcountry ski guide? Here’s the math. On a Full Season or Enthusiast Pass, a day with an ACMG-certified ski guide works out to $117.81 to $139.58, under the group and private day prices above. The tradeoff: pass days are group days, they need three sign-ups to run, and the booking rules below apply.Booking and cancellingYou can book last minute and cancel if the forecast turns. A few rules keep it fair for everyone:
- Cancel at least 24 hours before the start time. New bookings close 20 hours before.
- If you don’t show, arrive late or forget to cancel, the day is used.
- If weather, a road closure or avalanche hazard keeps you home, the day is still used. If we cancel, passholders get the day back and single-day guests get their money back.
- Upgrades are final once paid. That covers the $200 to run a small day, plus road trips, overnights, heli assist and sled access, unless we cancel the day.
- Passes can be refunded within 7 days of purchase. After that, they’re non-refundable and non-transferable.
- On the big days, like the Spearhead and Névé Traverses in a day, we confirm go or no-go 24 to 48 hours out, based on conditions.
When conditions aren’t greatSome days the snow isn’t good or the avalanche danger is high. That’s part of skiing in the mountains. Your guide will re-route to safer terrain, shift to a better weather window, or turn the day into hands-on avalanche education. You can also move your booking up to 24 hours before.Other ways to use a day:
- Mountain Skills Day: skills practice for when weather or snow rules out a tour
- Free Avalanche Safety Day: included with every pass
- Courses: 25% off with a Recreationalist, Enthusiast or Full Season Pass. Full Season holders can use pass days toward any course.
The Accidental Injury BenefitAn injury can end your season early. The Accidental Injury Benefit is a $50 add-on for any pass that helps if that happens. It isn’t insurance: we run and fund it ourselves.
- Add it within 7 days of buying your pass. Coverage starts right away and runs until April 20.
- If you’re hurt and make a successful claim (a doctor’s note is required), up to half of your remaining days move to next season when you buy your next pass.
- Full Season holders already carry half of their unused days forward. With the benefit and a successful claim, 100% move over.

On a day with one or two guests, the $200 upgrade doesn’t cover that. We break even across the whole season, not day by day: some days lose money, some balance out, some make a little. That only works when the terms are the same for everyone, so we don’t make exceptions for weather or missed days.See you out thereThe passholders who get the most out of a season book often, watch the forecast, and use the upgrade when it’s just them and a friend on a good day. When conditions aren’t there, they take a skills day or a course instead. If you’re new, welcome. Book a day, and if it’s looking like a small group, you know your options. If you’d rather have a guide to yourself, private guiding is $850 a day.Log in https://aurorabackcountrypass.com/login andbook your next day https://aurorabackcountrypass.com/book.
