Service Description

Prepare yourself for the worst-case scenario. The elephant in the room for almost ALL avalanche courses; WHAT DO I DO AFTER I DIG AN INJURED AVALANCHE VICTIM OUT?? Come join us in Squamish for a winter-focused 40-hour Wilderness Advanced First Aid course, with CPR-C. After 2 classroom days taught by paramedics and patrollers, we will be joined by an ACMG ski guide for 2 intensive field days to cement your learning in the Squamish backcountry. In addition, learn to identify avalanche terrain, become familiar with the complexities of snowpack structure analysis, and how most professionals never solely rely on this variable in their decision-making process. We will teach you the most commonly used snowpack tests when to use them and what your results mean. Learn to use a consistent hazard analysis routing after gathering only the pertinent information before you venture into the backcountry. After a complete field day, we will embark on a night scenario, culminating in an optional overnight bivy. Learn how to survive an unplanned winter overnight under the supervision of industry professionals. Our Avalanche Risk Management and Rescue course is taught by ACMG guides and Certified First Aid Instructors who are Advanced Care Paramedics with REAL first responder experience. Our teaching style follows a process that begins with modeling our processes and skills, then Coaching you to proficiency, with only Facilitation and Guided Observation for the last day. All students will have access to free future consultations throughout the season as the conditions change. AST-1 Recommended, but not required. No previous first-aid experience is required.
